Lead HGV Mechanic


We are recruiting an experienced Lead HGV Mechanic / Workshop Manager to head up operations within a busy technical workshop environment for an industry-leading engineering company.

This role is responsible for managing people, processes, and resources to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery of HGV maintenance and repair services. You will act as the main operational point of contact for customers and play a key role in driving performance and continuous improvement.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all HGV maintenance and repair activities, ensuring work is completed safely, on time, and to a high technical standard
  • Plan and allocate workload across supervisors and technicians to meet operational demands
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, productivity, and cost control
  • Monitor and manage workshop KPIs including turnaround time, cost per repair, productivity, and fleet uptime
  • Ensure compliance with health & safety regulations, quality standards, and internal procedures
  • Act as the primary operational contact for customers, managing day-to-day communication and expectations
  • Identify training needs and support development of supervisors and technicians
  • Mentor, motivate, and lead the workshop team to maintain high performance
  • Manage workshop resources, tooling, and equipment
  • Control budgets and operational costs, identifying savings opportunities
  • Liaise with suppliers and external partners
  • Support technical fault-finding and escalation where required


Requirements

  • Technical diploma as a minimum; Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical / Industrial Engineering preferred
  • Extensive experience in HGV workshop management, maintenance operations, or senior technical leadership
  • Strong commercial awareness with the ability to manage costs and budgets
  • Proven leadership experience managing supervisors and technicians
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills
  • Fluent in Dutch and English



Salary range for this role is €80,000-$100,000.
